Instead of being bored at home, here’s a short list of things to do around Houston

Elephants playing at the Zoo

1- Do you enjoy animal watching? If so, visit the Houston Zoo. Tickets aren’t too expensive, and there are plenty of animals to see. (if you’re a University of Houston student, bring your student ID and your ticket is free)

An empty exhibit hall at the Museum

2- If you’d prefer something indoors, check out the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. (free admission every Thursday)

Dinosaur just chilling

3- After visitng the Museum of Fine Arts, walk down the street and view the dinosaur exhibit at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. (the museum is free to all visitors every Thursday between 3–6 p.m.)

Sunset at Hermann Park

4- Located near the medical district, and within walking distance of the Museum district, Hermann Park is great for picnics, spending time with family or significant others, watching the sunset over the park’s reflection pool, and a great place to take photos.

People atop the hill

5- Across the street from Hermann Park, you’ll be at the McGovern Centennial Park. Here, you’d be able to walk through and enjoy the park’s large rose garden. It’s a great place for wedding ceremonies.

Bethel Church Park

6- Now going to an entirely different area of Houston, the Bethel Church Park in the Historic Fourth Ward (formely known as Freedmen’s Town) was created out of the remains of the Bethel Baptist Church. It’s a nice place to sit, relax and reflect.

Houston skyline

7- Finishing off our parks is the Buffalo Bayou Park, located off of Allen Parkway. Not only does the park have one of the best running and biking trails in Houston, but it also offers one of the best views of downtown Houston.

An evening in Houston

8- The streets of Downtown Houston, especially during the evenings when the heat isn’t too bad, provides a great place to walk. Not only that, but there are now quite a few restaurants and venues that have opened up within the past few years. (if you’re 21+ visit Main St.)

City watching

9- Want to get the best view of Houston? Visit the Chase Tower’s sky lobby to see the city from an entirely different perspective. (the sky lobby is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m-5 p.m.)

Stationary bikes

10- If you’ve been to downtown Houston, I’m sure you’ve noticed these bike rental stations spread throughout the city. For an inexpensive price, you can rent a bike and ride around the city.

So many colors

11- Whether you’re in the mood of taking photos or just viewing great graffiti art, downtown Houston provides many different art walls to explore. (check near BBVA stadium)

KYLE and Pikachu

12- One of the best parts about Houston are the limitless number of concert halls, arenas and music venues in the city. Whether it’s the House of Blues, Revention Music Center, Warehouse Live, NRG Arena, Toyota Center or any of the other venues, be sure to keep up to date with the performances.

Welcome

13- If you’re anyting like me, you spend much of your day hungry. Luckily, there are quite a few restaurants popping up around Houston. One of my favorite coffee houses is Tout Suite. It has a nice atmosphere, serves a bunch of different baked goods, and it’s right by downtown.

Please order before sitting

14- Looking for crepes? Check out Sweet Paris in Rice Village.

Beer, sun, and hammocks

15- And finally, if you’re looking for a nice outdoor bar, Axelrad is one of Houston’s newest bars to pop up. If you enjoy being outdoors, and drinking beer, this is the place for you.

I hope that you enjoyed my list. If you have any other suggestions, please comment down below.
